Why An Extra-Marital Affair Means Automatic Resignation For The Head Of The CIA

Robert Johnson and Geoffrey Ingersoll

Petraeus
The central risk of a CIA agent disclosing sensitive information to someone with whom he was maintaining an illicit extra-marital affair is minor compared with the possibility the affair could be used against him as blackmail.
The moment General Petraeus put himself into a position where his private behavior became something he needed to hide from the public -- as stated in his resignation letter -- he essentially put national security at risk. It's exactly the type of compromise which would put any government worker at immediate risk of losing a Top Secret clearance.

In fact, anyone applying for a Top Secret Security Clearance To Compartmentalized Information (TSSCI) would be denied for simply having any outstanding debt. Something as simple as a DUI or alcohol problem can endanger passing a Secret Clearance review, which is one lower than TSSCI (also referred to as a 'need-to-know').

Petraeus, as the head of CIA, certainly had the type of Top Secret clearance which allowed him comprehensive access to the most sensitive pieces of National Security information.

Had a foreign agent found out Petraeus was involved in an extramarital affair, the resulting leverage could have been astounding.

That the CIA itself didn't know of Petraeus's activities is itself astounding as well.

  2. Pillow talk aside -
"an illicit-marital affair" - it sounds so old fashioned - so James Bond-ish.
What does television, globally, portray in 2012 .? - Sex & The City - type lifestyle ?
Liberal freedom to be yourself & enjoy life, before you DROP DEAD. Let's face it, life is here & then it's gone & the best years of ones life go in the blink of an eye. "the years when there are no aches & pains, to poop on the performance."
When can one live a bit in the scheme of things, I ask you.
Explore your own "selfdom" before you go & for good:-
The extra marital part - oops - !
What if one was just able to lodge a paper, informing the establishment of the transgression - no possible blackmail.
It's so old fashioned & un-human like, style of thinking.
    People slip sometimes.
So put a steak in his heart for it, already.
I think that we the people of this planet have moved on from THE GOOD OL' DAYS OF YORE - James Bond was yesterday & these people are living in the past.

  4. According to Jesse Ventura: when you don't play the game their way, they take you out by way of:
    1. You have a drug problem
    2. You are a cheater
    3. You are crazy.
Do you think he might've stumbled onto something he shouldn't have? I'm only asking, because Petraeus was put in charge of the CIA right after Panetta (both installed by Obama) to shake things up over there. I wonder if he did. There are supposedly some pretty, hardcore right wing elements in the CIA...it's been rumored Beghazi was engineered as an "October Surprise". The question would be, who gave the order to kill Christopher Stevens?

"The CIA faces a potential period of instability after Mr Petraeus' resignation, as it also deals with a budget squeeze and questions over its response to the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi." -http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-20276610

  5. Extra-marital affair, my ass. He was scheduled to testify next week about Benghazi, and now, he won't be testifying; his replacement will testify about it. As was mentioned on another blog, he's going to fall on the Benghazi PsyOp sword for Hitlary and Panetta. Seeing as how the whole thing was a CIA production, it won't be too hard to dump blame on him. They'll beat on him a bit, but he'll retire with honors, believe me. He's an ass-kissing company man.
