Sicily Pitchfork Movement in Revolt – Western Media Blackout

Could Sicily Provide the World with a Mass Revolt Template?
On January 16th, middle class Sicilians began a popular uprising appropriately called the ‘Pitchfork Movement’…’Movimento Dei Forconi’.

There are shades of the Occupy movement within it, but the core is not dissatisfied unemployed youth with no property or businesses to lose.

They are middle aged and older. They know that what they have left has been targeted by their own elites to bear the economic pain.

The other difference is size. Sicily’s five million people, their grass roots people, have occupied themselves.
So of course the story caught my eye and I then checked the mainstream media sites to look at what I was sure to be some great video. Wrong! So far, there is almost nothing.

I went back to check my date…and yes it started on the 16th and took two days to shut the island down, nothing going in or out. That was almost two weeks ago and I just learned today, and I can assure you I am not a hermit.

Can you image the Occupy Wall street people having shut Manhattan down of two weeks with no European coverage? Sure, it’s Sicily and not Manhattan…but it’s big, 25,000 sq km. That is what I used the space station feature photo.

What could corporate media possibly be afraid of? Well grab your seats, and here it is:

Sicily is Rising
The arrest of all corrupt politicians
Reduction in the number of Parliamentarians
Removal of the provincial bureaucracy (local crooks), as most of these politicians have been there for over forty years
Drastic cuts in the salaries and privileges of Parliamentarians and Senators
Restricting politicians to only two terms in office
Now there are some radical ideas. They must have come from some Anarchist Aliens that landed in Sicily during the night. Or…it sounds like we all have a common problem, that requires a common solution, which requires that we might want to start working together. That sounds like another radical idea, but Veterans Today would be happy to over a platform for such an exchange.

Here is one YouTube video that I found with only a whopping 47 views. Now that’s what I call getting the word out. I mean, really…is Sicily on everybody’s hate list or something? Did they do something REALLY bad? Maybe I am a hermit and just don’t know it. You might need to turn me in to Gordon!!

 From Neil’s blog last week:

Grass Roots Revolt
Today is the third day of protest in Sicily. The island is almost paralyzed. In the island are protesting truckers, farmers, fishermen, craftsmen associations and merchants.
Students are organizing demonstrations in solidarity, occupying roads and harbours. In Gela they close the entrance to the refinery, threatening the port operations.
Hundreds of trucks are at Villa San Giovanni harbour trying to ship to the big island with tons of goods  (fruit vegetables and dairy supplies) will soon putrefy because the trucks cannot reach the shores of Sicily island. This stop is having a price on Sicily in terms of loss in their economy.
The stocks of fuel are scarce and in many areas of the island are over, same for food, with empty shelves in supermarkets and some smaller business are already closed. People are starting to fear the food that comes from the black market. Truck inventory is escorted by the police.

Sicilian Middle Class Takes to the Streets
The protest against increases in fuel (40% taxes on top of the basic price) and road toll, but this is just the top of the iceberg. The leaders of the movement speak of “a cry of despair and revolt of the workers on the island.”
This is not an usual mobilization that gathers social sectors and political groups that have little in common: waving separatist flags next to the Forza Nuova (extreme right wing movement).
The risk of exploitation is as always very high. Even more in a region like Sicily, perhaps the one that most supported the center-right government led by Berlusconi, who has led the country to bankrupt.
Many people believe that fascists and mafia are behind and within the movement. There are those who ask the promoters of the protest to distance themselves from people linked to the crime who are seizing the moment to join the protest as victims to have a sort of control.
Prosecutors in Palermo confirmed the possibility of such suspicious, but it is unknown whether there are already ongoing investigations.

Hamadi Jebali - Tunisia's First Elected Prime Minister
As Veterans Today has been stating over and over, if the good folks want to take on the deeply entrenched elite mafias, they have to set aside their petty differences that historically absorb 95% of their political activism energies.
They have to save the home front or they are going to have nothing to fight over other than working for the mobsters to hunt down those who still have something to steal.
Yesterday I listened to a wonderful Al Jazeera interview with Tunisia’s new Prime Minister, Hamadi Jebali.
The big question asked was how had the moderate Islamists, his party, and the secular Tunisian new leaders been able to work together so well, so far, despite their ‘issues’.
Jebali answered instantly, ‘We just set all that aside…we knew we had to concentrate on the economic problems because the voters are going to hold us responsible if they are not fixed as soon as possible’….which was a very good answer.
Both sides knew that if things were still in the big mess they are now, that with the elections one year out their butts would be out on the street. They expect to be held accountable.

Ronald Reagan
Maybe these new emerging democracies can teach us older ones some things we may have forgotten, or hidden away.  We need to wise up and get these economic issues dealt with or none of the others are going to matter in the end anyway. They had to get rid of the blood suckers first to even begin the job.
We have some mega blood suckers sitting on the $4.5 trillion that Ronald Reagan and Lee Wanta wanted to rebuild America.
We have 15,000 reads on our Saturday night column but the media trucks are not parked outside my house yet. I suspect they may be waiting to see if the people even care.

  5. I love Italy and regard sicily as the last bastion of what ones was Italy.
And I also bevlive its a people uprising, and a consequence is that others take advantage of That. Like the #OWS was/is under threat of been hijacked, by different aspects.
And drown it completly like the TeaParty.

But I belive in Italians is because of their knowledge in history, Roman history and therby of course Politics, a game taken to extrem hights and spectacular downs in ancient Italy.
Dont underetsemate them, and do notis that the Mafia

(mafia is ancient a form of ballance in and on the hypocracy in our ruling elites lwas, but also a trusted "partner" regarding crossing lines, today its just a bunch of criminals without moral or social consuisness, mutual respect is replased with violence, a shure sign of imaturety, stupidity and greed)

is also the target, but like traditions are when a goverment is far more more criminal and socialising privat owed dept, than the Mob, a nation gets into even bigger trubles.
Sicylians know that and now their patient has runn out.
    Be loud and proud.

    Salute.

There is No democracy if you dont have the right to say No.

  8. original, crusty, and oh so tasty

dishing out deep sicilian resentment in the middle of the week
all the farmers and other workers of the little island piqued
there are fewer batards baking and the fishing-market’s bleak
as pitchforks stamp out counter-rhythms to the one that elites seek

    Namaste

  10. "...if the good folks want to take on the deeply entrenched elite mafias, they have to set aside their petty differences that historically absorb 95% of their political activism energies." This mindset also applies to the international financiers that made all this misery possible. We all know who "they" are

  13. I don't think it will come to America, because the American people are gullible and in 2012 they still vote for Warmongers like Romney, Gingrich and Sanitorium.
Look at all their recent US state's caucus(Iowa,Virginia,Tampa, New Hampshire, etc.) in the last 30 days and more than 2/3 vote for those scumbags.
You the american people have at least a good candidate, Ron Paul, and you still have the nerve to vote for WAR and DEATH.
I don't understand you Americans. Because of YOU(USA) and your loyal dog Israhell, WE the PEOPLES of this Planet Earth are on the brink of a World War and YOU still hope that JESUS will come and save you and fight the Warmongers for you.

Less than 1% went on the street since the OWS started and you think that with that kind of uprising(less than 1%) and voting for Romney, Gingrich, Sanitorium, you'll be able to change things for the better in your country. Sorry guys but I have some surprises coming soon to a theater near you. The end scenario you'll get at the end of your American dream will be to your expectation.

USA might be a Super-power on this Planet,as a War machine, but when it comes to stand up and rise against Tyranny, corruption and thievery, you're a bunch of Cowards or Zombies.
What are you afraid of ? The cops ? The FBI ? Loosing your materialistic world ? Your saturday night favorite sitcom? Your week-end Football game ? WHAT ?

Your 312 millions Americans and you still not capable of having 3 millions peoples in New-York city, Los Angeles, Atlanta, or any large city to protest against the tyranny of Obama & Cie. At least for a week-end !

Come On WAKE-UP ! Clean up your own house before someone else does it for you. The rest of the World are fed up of the hypocrisy of US/NATO/ISRAHELL messing up with other nation's affairs.

If you don't move quickly against your US Government's foreign policies and annihilation of your Constitution, you will deserve your American Nightmare.

    1. JP,

While the times call for immediate action, we need to be patient. We must remain encouraging with the vision that more is getting done. More people are waking up. More people are beginning to act. More people are beginning to walk away from that which goes against their innate knowing of truth. We must continue to have faith as a means to contribute to the empowerment of love. This is the real cause. It is because of a lack of love that it has got this way.

This kind of compassion to all is the best weapon.
It is a mistake to think this is a weakness and a complacent state of mind that is lackadaisical. There is the most strength in the power of love. It brings people together. It eliminates fear. It is inevitable that the more people are no longer afraid, more will also imbibe a non-violent, peaceful, disengagement of a 'sinking ship' system.

You are right to point out that more needs to be done. More need to be disengaging a backwards system. Keep in mind that reinforcements have arrived! And will continue to do so until darkness implodes on itself. The hold on minds are still great, many remain asleep. And yes, even those who are awakening, still must break free from the fear of what the majority will think or do. These false social conditions have been cold-calculated for years and it does take time to deprogram to a once again fully functioning conscious awareness.

Your message alone represents a deep caring for the change that is inevitable. You are right to be firm, but the message needs to be in the deliverance of peace and love.

All the best in your spiritual endeavors.

  16. Are we going to leave this mess to our children and grandchildren or are we going to ensure their freedom? If even 30% of the citizens stop cooperating, and actively cause trouble, obama et al is done for... The military WILL revolt as they are citizens as well and are appalled at what the government is doing. Lets put the administration, FEMA and DHS et al in their own camps until they can be tried and hung for treason. Lets hijack occupy, and go after the traitors in force. Refuse to pay all foreign loans as they should have known better than to loan money to obama. They are not our friends....

  17. I have been a member of the board of the Finnish Alliance. In one meeting I heard in my own ears, when chairman Heikki Tala told the board that Helsinki District Court was ready to ban our organization! An official had told this threat to our chairman in a meeting in the Ministry for Internal Affairs.

This happened before the New York Times interviewed our chairman and published an article about Finland on December 25, 2005. This article mentioned our organization.

As far as I have understood, president Halonen, Prime Minister Vanhanen and other leading politicians were behind this threat to ban the Finnish Alliance - without any reason!

A government's threat to ban a peaceful organization (because of its opinions) violates the principles of democracy.

  18. It's the 100th Monkey Effect that will expedite a globally successful coup. When you understand that we are all connected and like domino's, when the momentum reaches a certain percentage the whole gets the picture instantly. Study the phenomenon, it is real. The Global Conciousness Project has the data to prove this also. No need for tanks and artillery just a serious change in attitude. We can do it one mind at a time by sharing info like this!
